Damariscotta Lake Watershed Association sponsors a number of activities throughout the year. The following is a listing of events that may be of importance to those in the watershed. MayVernal Pool WalkFriday, May 2 at 10AM, meeting at the DLWA office, there will be a vernal pool walk on the West Branch Preserve during which we will learn about vernal pool ecosystems. The rain date for this event is Monday, May 5th. Nature Paddle on Davis StreamMay 17 at 9AM at Damariscotta Lake State Park Bring a canoe or kayak and join a nature paddle up Davis Stream to see the area come alive in early spring. If you took the walk on the ice on February 9, you will be able to see the contrast the change of seasons brings to the area. Bird WalkFriday, May 23 at 8:30AM, meeting at the DLAW office, there will be a walk on either the West Branch or Mountain Trails. We will be listening and looking for migrating birds. MIDCOAST STEWARDSThe Maine Coastal Program offers this month-long adult education program that provides Maine residents with in-depth information about the Midcoast in exchange for a commitment of volunteer time. WATER WONDER DAYJune 8 or 9 (TBD) at Keive-Wavus Camp The DLWA education committee will take area students on a field trip to the Wavus Camp, where they will learn all about watersheds, what endangers them and how to protect them. Specific educational outdoor activities will cover topics ranging from macroinvertebrate identification to the impacts of erosion on water quality to the effects of invasive aquatic species. Students will also make their own vegetative buffer-themed t-shirts. The highlight of the day is a trip on the Maine Lakes Conservancy Research boat.

DLWA hosts a booth on its efforts to protect Nobleboro’s historic Chimney Farm The community day takes place at the North Nobleboro Community Hall.
JEFFERSON DAYSaturday, August 16th 9AM - 3PM Jefferson Townland Gezebo
DLWA hosts a booth educating community members about the watershed. The community day takes place on the green between the school and the town office.

On-goingCourtesy Boat Inspection program DLWA volunteer inspectors will monitor boats entering the Lake at the public boat launch on Bunker Hill Rd in an effort to prevent an invasive aquatic plant infestation. There are 26 lakes in Maine which currently suffer from infestations of plants such as variable water-milfoil and hydrilla, but constant vigilance is necessary to prevent new ones. Contact us to become an inspector.
