"The Watershed"

Damariscotta Lake is 13 miles long and is composed of three distinct bodies of water, Great Bay at the North end, Muscungus Bay to the South and East and the South Arm to the South and West.  There are several areas which are headway speed only zones that must be observed to prevent shoreline erosion and to protect nesting Loons.  In addition, the area at the junction of the three bodies of water is marked by many hazards with shallow water and large boulders.

To insure safe boating, please visit the State of Maine Boating Facilities web site and also take some time to review the meaning of the Navigation Aids you will find on Damariscotta Lake.

Navigation maps of Damariscotta Lake are available at the DLWA office at 8 Village Street, Jefferson.  The maps are 12 by 18 inches and are laminated for waterproofing and durability and are available for $10.  Alternatively, you can purchase them on line from the map manufacturer.  To visit that site and see a sample of the map, click here.
