Loons are regular
residents of Damariscotta Lake from ice-out to late fall.

are seen feeding at the lake, the most exciting observation is during
the alewife migration at the fish ladders in Damariscotta Mills in
May.

If you venture out on a spring or summer evening, especially if it's
warm and rainy, you will hear the chorus of some of the resident amphibians. Others are quiet as are the reptiles, but both are fascinating.

Birders will find many feathered songsters in the forested habitats, and in the fields. Aquatic birds are found on fresh water as well as on salt water environments.
